In life, you either succeed, or you give up before you do. That's it. Those are the only two options. The problem many of us with ADHD face is that we don't always have a deep burning desire to succeed at what we would consider a boring, pointless waste of time, or in other words the typical prescribed life plan that society pushes on everyone. Traditional definitions of success—climbing a career ladder, securing a steady job, following a linear life path—don't always resonate with us. Our journeys are rarely linear, and our passions are too vibrant to be confined to a single track.

For many of us, life is more like an artful dance from one interest to another, each move teaching us something new and essential about ourselves and the world around us. For instance, my life has been marked by diverse passions: playing music, cooking, advocating for others with ADHD, and traveling with my wife. In different phases of my life, I have focused more on one than the others, as life has put me in various positions where one has been easier, more fulfilling, or more relevant. Each of them has taught me something important about who I am.

What if we measured success not by how long we stick to one thing, but by how much we learn and grow along the way? This perspective shift is crucial for those with ADHD, as it celebrates our dynamic interests and ability to adapt. Instead of viewing the shift from one interest to another as inconsistency, we can see it as a life-long educational journey.

True success is about crafting a life that is rich with learning and growth. It's about embracing the stages of your life, understanding that each phase brings new challenges and rewards. Whether it’s diving deep into a hobby, changing careers, or supporting a cause close to your heart, success comes from engaging deeply and meaningfully with your pursuits.

Take a moment this week to write down your interests and how they have contributed to your growth. Recognize and celebrate each step you've taken on your path. Small accomplishments are the building blocks of significant achievements. Think about what you would like to explore next. What skills or knowledge do you wish to acquire?

Let’s redefine success as the freedom to explore life passionately and without restraint, celebrating the diverse and enriching experiences that come from following our passions.

Every step you take is a part of a broader journey. Remember, you are not just aiming for a destination but crafting a story rich with experiences and lessons - a life you LOVE living. This week, I challenge you to embrace your unique path and find inspiration in the knowledge that your journey is uniquely yours—brimming with opportunities to learn and grow.

And that's the whole point, isn't it?
